T20 World Cup 2026: Pakistan take shock decision to boycott India match, will play rest of the tournament

T20 World Cup: In a massive development, Pakistan have decided to participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup, but will boycott the match against India, scheduled to take place on February 15.The decision has been taken by the government of Pakistan after the International Cricket Council removed Bangladesh from the tournament after they denied playing in India over security concerns."The Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan grants approval to the Pakistan Cricket Team to participate in the ICC World T20 2026," the government said in a post on X."...however, the Pakistan Cricket Team shall not take the field in the match scheduled on 15th February 2026 against India."For the unaware, the Pakistan Cricket Board had backed Bangladesh's request to shift their T20 World Cup matches to Sri Lanka from India. BCB cited security concerns as the reason behind the ask, but the ICC declined the request, stating that there is no credible threat in playing the World Cup in India. The governing council also brought forward that it would be complex to change the schedule of the World Cup at this point in time. However, the BCB stayed firm over its stance. In the end, the ICC excluded Bangladesh from the World Cup, bringing Scotland as the replacement.PCB was not pleased with Bangladesh's removal from the World Cup, and subsequently conveyed the possibility of pulling out of the competition in solidarity with Bangladesh. The PCB chairman in the follow-up conveyed that it will announce its final decision on whether to play the T20 World Cup on Friday or on Monday. No statement has been issued from their end yet. However, the government's decision would be final, and its official statement will likely be identical to that of the one released by the government on Sunday. What's next in store? With Pakistan making its stand clear, it will be interesting to see how the ICC will address this decision. It goes without saying that an India vs Pakistan match draws massive attention, which is seemingly the reason why they are always placed in the same group. If Pakistan decide to sit out against India, then it will be a huge revenue loss for the board. ICC cannot force Pakistan to feature in the match, but a punishment could be levied in the form of forfeiture of points.

Why Mumbai players were forced to wear face masks during Ranji Trophy game against Delhi?

Mumbai team's players were spotted wearing masks during the Ranji Trophy game against Delhi on Thursday. Given the fact that the AQI (air quality index) of the city has not generated headlines like that of Delhi, fans on social media began to wonder why the players were wearing masks. Why did Mumbai players wear face masks during the match against Delhi in the Ranji Trophy match? As it turned out, the players were forced to put on face masks to protect themselves from pollution caused by construction work that was going on around.India and Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan and his younger brother Musheer Khan were seen wearing face masks during the third session of the play at the MCA-BKC Ground. The AQI on Thursday hovered around 160, with the conditions being “unhealthy”, as the players fought it out on the field. While pollution levels have remained high in the city, it is not common among players to wear face masks while playing. But a building construction site right next to the MCA-BKC Ground clearly aggravated the situation on Thursday afternoon. For about half an hour or so, the three Mumbai players wore face masks while fielding, but got rid of them later on.“There wasn't any banter (about it), but new (building) construction work is being carried out here, and because of that, the players were feeling the pollution and having issues in breathing, so they put those on,” said Mumbai pacer Mohit Avasthi when asked about the players wearing masks.Sangwan's century could not take Delhi to a promising totalDelhi opener Sumit Sangwan scored a brilliant century on day 1 of the contest against Mumbai. Sangwan registered 118 off 218 balls. Despite a brilliant knock by Sangwan, Delhi could only manage to post 221 on the board. Courtesy of a five-wicket haul by Mohit Awasthi and a couple each by Shams Mulani and Tushar Deshpande, Delhi got bundled out inside 77 overs. Mumbai, in reply, have also lost a wicket early. Before the end of the day, Divij Mehra dismissed opener Akash Anand. Mumbai were 13/1 after 3 overs at stumps. Akhil Harwadkar and nightwatchman Deshpande will begin the proceedings for Mumbai on Day 2 of this ever-anticipated clash. With the likes of Srfaraz Khan, Siddhesh Lad, Shams Mulani, and Musheer Khan in the squad, Mumbai's batting lineup runs deep, and they will look to get past the total posted by Delhi on Friday. With inputs from PTI

IND vs NZ: New Zealand snap India's winning streak with a commanding 50-run victory in the 4th T20I

IND vs NZ: After outmuscling New Zealand three times in a row, India suffered a defeat by a heavy margin of 50 runs in the 4th T20I in Vizag. Kiwi opener Tim Seifert set the tone for NZ's victory with a brilliant 62 off 35 balls. Powered by Seifert's innings, the Blackcaps posted 215/7 after 20 overs. While a 200-plus target gives the side that has batted first immense confidence, given how India have made a mockery of the scores posted by the Kiwis in the series, New Zealand players would have felt that the job is not yet done. However, in the absence of Ishan Kishan, India struggled, and despite a brilliant hitting display by Shivam Dube, who scored 65 in just 23 balls, India got bundled out at 165 and lost the match by 50 runs. With the win, New Zealand are off the mark in the series.IND vs NZ: New Zealand off the mark in the T20I seriesThe toss went in India's favour and paying heed to the due factor, SKY opted to field first. New Zealand openers- Tim Seifert and Devon Conway- started on a brisk note and forged a 100-run stand for the first wicket in just 8 overs. This partnership laid the foundation for New Zealand to put on a massive total, and indeed, they put on 215 at the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.Chasing 216, India lost its way early as Abhishek Sharma got dismissed on a golden duck, and captain Suryakumar could only contribute 8 runs this time. Following that, Sanju Samson and Rinku Singh tried to keep up with the required run-rate, but eventually both got dismissed. At 82/5 in 10.3 overs, India were reeling, but Shivam Dube stepped up for the side and scored a brilliant 65 in just 23 balls. He kept India in the hunt as long as he was there in the middle, but after his departure, the loss was inevitable for the hosts.India lost the match by 50 runs. Captain Mitchell Santner was the pick of the bowlers. He snared three dismissals and gave away just 26 runs in his quota of four overs. Tim Seifert was adjudged the player of the match for scoring 62 in just 36 balls. With that only the fifth and final T20I of the series remains. The 5th T20I between India and New Zealand will take place on Saturday on Janurary 31, 2026.

WPL 2026 Points Table: RCB cements the top spot, but where are the other teams placed?

WPL 2026 Points Table: Royal Challengers Bengaluru are through to the WPL 2026 final with a comprehensive 8-wicket victory over the UP Warriorz at the BCA Stadium on Thursday. The win has ensured RCB the top spot on the points table, which means the remaining four teams will now have to compete for the playoff spots.WPL Points Table after RCB's impeccable win over UP WarriorzAs the 4th edition of the Women's Premier League is approaching its end, all the teams except RCB are standing at a must-win position. According to the current standings, the Gujarat Giants are positioned behind the RCB with 8 points, virtually assured of a top-3 finish. Following that, it is the defending champions, the Mumbai Indians, who are at 3rd with 6 points. Delhi Capitals are at 4th but alive in the playoff race as they are tied with MI on points but behind them on NRR. UP Warriorz are languishing at the bottom with four points. One may assume that they are out of contention, but there is still a tiny possibility that they can feature in the top-3.Here's the WPL 2026 Points Table after match 18 between RCB and UPW.Is UP Warriorz still in the race?UP Warriorz are virtually out of the season, but there is nothing impossible in the game of cricket. They are scheduled to face the Delhi Capitals in their final league match. It goes without saying that they not just need a victory in that contest but have to dismantle DC to improve their NRR completely. A comprehensive victory will take them to 6 points, and if they manage to bring their NRR to +1 and above, then a chance can be created. However, they have to pray for GG to come up with the goods against the Mumbai Indians. If this happens, then GG will qualify for the playoffs, and the other three teams will be at 6 points apiece. From them, one with the superior NRR will go through.Orange Cap and Purple Cap battleNatalie Sciver-Brunt of the Mumbai Indians is currently the leading run-scorer this season. She has amassed 319 runs in 6 games. Behind her is RCB captain Smriti Mandhana with 290 runs. Harmanpreet Kaur is third with 260 runs.As for the Purple Cap, RCB's Nadine de Klerk and Sophie Devine are tied on 15 wickets each. Thus, the battle for the purple cap is quite intense.

Australian Open 2026: Novak Djokovic defeats Jannik Sinner in the semi-final, sets up epic clash against Carlos Alcaraz in the final

Australian Open 2026: Novak Djokovic defeats Jannik Sinner in the semi-final, sets up epic clash against Carlos Alcaraz in the final

Novak Djokovic has defeated world no.2 Jannik Sinner in a thrilling 5 setter to progress to the final of the Australian Open 2026. Djokovic won the semi-final match, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, at the Rod Laver Arena. The winner of 24 Grand Slams will face World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz in the final. The summit clash will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at the same venue. After over two years, Novak Djokovic has finally made it to a Grand Slam final. The Serbian battled past the defending champion Jannik Sinner in a 5-set classic to book a clash against Alcaraz. This will be the 38th Grand Slam final of his illustrious career. Alcaraz has emerged as the biggest rival lately, which perfectly sets up the script. Beat the World No.1 and claim the elusive 25th Grand Slam title.Notably, Djokovic holds the most men's singles majors in the history of the game, but he is tied with Margaret Court on 24 Grand Slam titles. The win against Alcaraz could take him to the eminent number and cement his place as the Greatest of All Time. Luck favoured Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open 2026After picking up straight set wins over Pedro Martinez, Francesco Maestrelli, and Botic van de Zandschulp in the first three rounds, Djokovic received a walkover against Jakud Mensik, who got injured. In the quarterfinal, he faced Lorenzo Musetti, who had put him under the pump by winning the first two sets. However, an injury forced the Italian to retire from the match. Consequently, Djokovic received another walkover. In the semi-final against Sinner, Djokovic lost the first set, but came back quickly by winning the second set. He went down again in the match after Jannik won the third set, but one can never count Djokovic, especially when it is a semi-final, that also at the Australian Open. Using all his experience, he broke Sinner's serve twice in the last two sets and ultimately prevailed.Djokovic vs Alcaraz: What to expect?Djokovic and Alcaraz have faced each other 9 times before, with the Serb leading by a minor margin of 5-4. The last time two squared off was at the US Open 2025 semi-final. There, Alcaraz convincingly defeated Djokovic in four sets. Alcaraz's road to the final has been quite similar to Djokovic's when it comes to how the outcomes turned out, but Alcaraz has spent more court time, as Djokovic received a couple of byes. Much like Novak, Alcaraz was also immensely tested in the semi-final. The 6-time Grand Slam winner played an edge-of-your-seat thriller against Alexander Zverev on Friday. Given that age is a huge factor in sports, 22-year-old Alcaraz will have the legs to potentially play another 5-set encounter, but can the 38-year-old Novak Djokovic do the same, is the question.

'This Pakistan cricket team right now is a mess': Ex-cricketer hits hard on the 'hypocrisy' of Pakistan after boycotting India match in T20 World Cup 2026

On a day when the under-19 teams of India and Pakistan locked horns in the group stage encounter of the U-19 World Cup 2026, the Pakistan government announced a startling decision to boycott the match against bitter rivals India in the T20 World Cup 2026. The PAK government conveyed its official decision on X, ending the suspense over the team's participation, but creating a major headache for the International Cricket Council. As per the schedule, the match is slated to take place on February 15.Aakash Chopra slams Pakistan for Boycotting T20 World Cup match vs IndiaThe Pakistan government's decision has triggered a strong response from ex-cricketer Aakash Chopra, who stated that the decision defies logic and only hints at the mess Pakistan cricket is in."They will not play against India. Why? Because they stated that they will not play against India in India. The ICC agreed to that, since India were given the venue in Dubai during the Champions Trophy, the ICC offered Pakistan Colombo instead. 'Go and play this game there,' they said. But Pakistan said no to that, too. So what will you do now? Interestingly, this decision came on the very day when India and Pakistan were playing each other in Bulawayo. Aren't these Under-19 kids yours? What kind of hypocrisy is this? you don't permit one team to play, yet the other team is playing on the same day, loses, puts in no effort to win, doesn't even try to qualify for the semis? Pakistan cricket right now is in a complete mess. Chopra brought forward the likely scenario of India and Pakistan meeting each other again in the semi-final of the tournament. He satirically asked what they do then, boycott that match too? "You're boycotting only that one match, but if you face the same opposition in the semi-final, you'll suddenly say, 'We were joking. We'll boycott only that match, not this one.' Where is the spine? What kind of logic is this? We boycott one day, then we're available to play the next match. Are they making a mockery of international cricket? And for what? You got what you wanted. I think there will be repercussions."As Pakistan have made their call, the attention will now shift to the ICC. How will Pakistan approach this stance, and will the India vs Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup 2026 take place or not? These are the burning questions at the moment.

'Irregular' armed guards aboard Russian shadow tankers alarm Nordic-Baltic governments

The seizure of a Russian-linked oil tanker in the North Atlantic has highlighted "worry" among NATO and Nordic-Baltic governments over dark fleet vessels and the type of crews onboard, according to a maritime intelligence analyst.U.S. military and Coast Guard personnel boarded the Marinera between Iceland and the U.K. Wednesday as it operated under deceptive shipping practices, including flying a false flag and violating sanctions.According to Reuters, Russian authorities demanded the humane treatment and repatriation of the crew members.Windward maritime intelligence analyst Michelle Wiese Bockmann claimed the Marinera’s ownership had just been transferred to Burevestmarin LLC, a Russian company.TREASURY TARGETS OIL TRADERS, TANKERS ACCUSED OF HELPING MADURO EVADE U.S. SANCTIONS"We do not know the status of these sailors and seafarers, who are Russian nationals," Wiese Bockmann told Fox News Digital. "That lack of clarity is common with dark fleet tankers."The Marinera did have its ownership transferred to a newly formed Russian company, with the registered owner, ship manager and commercial manager being Burevestmarin LLC."She also suggested NATO and the Nordic-Baltic 8+ group of governments have been "worried" about sanctioned oil tankers with unauthorized personnel onboard, including "armed guards."WORLD’S BIGGEST OIL RESERVE HOLDER FACES US CHOKEHOLD AS TRUMP TARGETS VENEZUELA’S SHADOW TANKER FLEET"Increasingly, and I know the Nordic Baltic 8+ governments are worried about the fact that you are having unauthorized people also on board, also known as armed guards," Wiese Bockmann said. "But it is highly irregular."Armed guards are rarely seen and typically used on ships that are transiting the Gulf of Aden or the Red Sea and are therefore assessed as at risk from attack by Houthis or pirates," she added. After the seizure, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt rejected Russian demands for special treatment of the Marinera’s crew during her regular briefing Wednesday."This was a Venezuelan shadow fleet vessel that had transported sanctioned oil," Leavitt said."The vessel was deemed stateless after flying a false flag, and it had a judicial seizure order. And that’s why the crew will be subject to prosecution."Russia’s Foreign Ministry said it was "closely following" the situation, according to the state-run TASS news agency.US COAST GUARD PURSUES THIRD 'DARK FLEET' OIL TANKER AS TRUMP TARGETS VENEZUELAN SANCTIONS EVASION NETWORKWiese Bockmann noted that dark fleet crews are often multinational, typically involving a Russian master with Chinese, Indian or Filipino crew members."There is a blurring of commercial and military shipping around the dark fleet," she said. "What we’re seeing now is something that has really only emerged in the last six or seven months."European authorities have also begun holding crews accountable, particularly when captains are "facilitating dangerous deceptive shipping practices, such as spoofing and going dark," she explained."The EU recently sanctioned the captain of a tanker who refused orders from the Estonian navy (Jaguar) to be stopped for inspection last May. And the French charged a captain over his refusal to comply with orders and failure to justify a flag’s nationality after authorities intercepted a dark fleet tanker in the Atlantic last October," Wiese Bockmann added. As previously reported by Fox News Digital, a second vessel, the M. Sophia, was also boarded in international waters near the Caribbean while en route to Venezuela.Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House for comment.

'We purposely played six batters': Suryakumar Yadav reveals intriguing reason why India went with one batter less in 4th T20I vs NZ

IND vs NZ: India suffered a crushing loss of 50 runs at the hands of New Zealand in the 4th T20I played in Vizag on Wednesday. Batting first, New Zealand posted a monumental total of 215/7 in 20 overs. In reply, India got bundled out at 165 inside 19 overs. With the victory, the Kiwis have opened their account in the 5-match series, which has already been sealed by India after winning three games in a row. Following the result of the 4th T20I, the score now stands 4-1, with the fifth and final T20I scheduled to be played on Saturday.Having wrapped up the series, Team India took a chance of narrowing its batting lineup. They went with six batters instead of seven. Moreover, the job was always going to turn more arduous as Ishan Kishan, who was the chief architect of India's win in the 2nd T20I and pushed the momentum in India's favour in the 3rd T20I, sat out for the game due to a niggle.IND vs NZ: Captain Suryakumar Yadav reveals the reason for playing six batters in 4th T20IFollowing the culmination of the match, India captain Suryakumar Yadav revealed that the decision to play only six batters was intentional. The team and the management want the T20 World Cup squad to experience every situation ahead of the start of the T20 World Cup."We purposely played six batters. Wanted to have five bowlers and challenge ourselves. We wanted to play the players who were part of the World Cup squad, otherwise would have played other players. We have been batting well batting first. Wanted us to see how we bat when two or three down while chasing 180-200. With heavy dew, one or two partnerships like Dube batted, one partnership could have made a difference."The match indeed displayed India's approach after losing wickets early, but unfortunately, it would not give the team much confidence as India lost by a staggering margin of 50 runs.IND vs NZ: New Zealand off the mark in the seriesThe toss went in India's favour and paying heed to the due factor, SKY opted to field first.

'Thanks for giving us a reason to..': Ashwin's savage response to a ragebaitor accusing him of indirect attack on Virat Kohli

Social media is a place where information is widely shared and where anyone can express their opinion on virtually everything. While the platform grants a voice to all, it also frequently becomes a vehicle for misinformation, which can lead to widespread misconceptions. Former India player Ravichandran Ashwin identified such a threat recently and diffused the spark before it could take the form of fire.As a seasoned YouTuber, Ashwin published a video on his channel giving his analysis of the 3rd T20I between India and New Zealand. As Team India chased down the target of 154 in just 10 overs, Ashwin heaped massive praise on the team for carrying such a dominant template, which is opposed to the traditional batting style that India have followed for years.Ashwin's responds to a X userDuring the discussion, Ashwin mentioned the T20 World Cup 2024 final, where India scored 176/6 after 20 overs and won the match by 7 runs. Recalling the match, he praised Jasprit Bumrah's exceptional bowling and Suryakumar Yadav's spectacular catch. However, he did highlight the standout innings of Virat Kohli-76 off 59- that helped India reach a competitive total on the day.As Kohli's fan following is immense on social media, one user got irked by Ashwin not mentioning Kohli's name and wrote a long post, putting light on Kohli's gutsy knock. Subsequently, the user saw this as an indirect attack and accused Ashwin of belittling Kohli's match-winning knock.Paying heed to the comment, Ashwin responded, informing that he had a brief chat with Kohli on the subject, and both shared a laugh on how social media functions. "Just spoke to Virat about concern on the indirect attack, and we both had a good laugh about how social media works in such clickbait fan wars. Thanks for giving us a reason to bond and talk," Ashwin wrote.Ravichandran Ashwin and Virat Kohli go a long backRavichandran Ashwin was India's premier spinner under Virat Kohli's Test captaincy. The bowler picked up heaps of wickets and won the team innumerable matches from 2012 to 2025. Their Test journey started around the same time in 2011, and both finished their Test careers at the same time. The Border Gavaskar Trophy of 2024-25, proved to be the final assignment of both the legends in the longest format of the game.Besides the Tests, they shared success in ODIs as well. The two were a part of the ODI side that won the 2011 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy 2013. Both are the living legends of the game, and their names are forever etched in the history books of Indian cricket.

'I don’t think they have the guts': Former India captain's blunt take on Pakistan's threat to boycott T20 World Cup 2026

With just over a week remaining until the start of the T20 World Cup 2026, all eyes are on the Pakistan Cricket Board, which is yet to announce its final decision on whether it will participate in the marquee tournament. The PCB hinted about potentially boycotting the tournament following Bangladesh's exclusion from the World Cup. Subsequently, the chairman of Pakistan's board, Mohsin Naqvi, informed through social media that the PCB will follow the course which will be advised by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. As per the recent update, Pakistan will communicate its final decision on the matter on Friday or Monday. Thus, until PCB issues a statement declaring its decision and putting an end to the month-long drama, uncertainty over the Pakistan team's participation in the upcoming competition will remain prevalent.Ajinkya Rahane thinks Pakistan do not have the 'guts' to withdrawPCB's stance has sparked a range of opinions. In the context, former India captain Ajinkya Rahane has also commented on the row that has rocked the cricket world. According to Rahane, Pakistan lack the nerve to take the extreme step and will eventually decide to play the World Cup.“I don’t think they can do that. I don’t think they have the guts,” Rahane said on Cricbuzz. Why is PCB still undecided over participating in the T20 World Cup?The Pakistan Cricket Board had openly backed Bangladesh during its standoff with the ICC over the venue change of the T20 World Cup 2026. The BCB levelled security concerns over sending the team to India and hence requested the governing council to shift its matches to Sri Lanka. However, the ICC rejected Bangladesh's plea, stating that adequate security would be provided during the tournament and that there was no credible or verifiable threat to playing in India. As both sides refused to back down, the ICC made the stringent decision of replacing Bangladesh with Scotland in Group C of the tournament.Since Pakistan were in Bangladesh's corner from the beginning, it may pull out of the World Cup in solidarity with BCB. PCB Boycott unlikelyAs per a report published by PTI, the Pakistan Cricket Board has already scheduled its T20 World Cup squad to depart for Colombo early on February 2, virtually ruling out any possibility of boycotting the tournament."The PCB has already made travel arrangements for the World Cup squad to leave early morning on February 2 for Colombo," a source close to the board said on Thursday, as quoted by PTI.

Pakistan boycott T20 World Cup match vs IND: What are the past instances of teams forfeiting matches in ICC events?

T20 World Cup 2026: The Pakistan government on Sunday startled the cricket world by boycotting the T20 World Cup 2026 match against India. The decision triggered an intense reaction from the ICC and many well-known former cricketers. Subsequently, the general belief is that Pakistan could face consequences for taking such a daring call. While Pakistan's decision has caused an uproar, it is not an unprecedented move. It is not the first time that a team has backed out of playing a match in the World Cup.A total of three times this instance of a team forfeiting a World Cup match has occurred before. Let's take a look at the previous instances when the team did not feature in only one game of the World Cup.1996 World Cup: Australia vs Sri LankaThe 1996 World Cup, which was co-hosted by India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, was hit by controversy when Australia refused to travel to Sri Lanka, owing to the civil unrest that was prevalent in the country back then. Australia did not play the group stage match against Sri Lanka, which was scheduled to take place in Colombo. Ironically, both teams eventually met in the final, where Sri Lanka emerged victorious over Australia.1996 World Cup: West Indies vs Sri LankaMuch like Australia, the West Indies also forfeited the group stage encounter against Sri Lanka in the 1996 World Cup due to security concerns. They lost points due to the decision. Despite losing points, the West Indies team managed to go deep into the tournament. They reached the semi-final stage, where they lost to Australia.'2003 World Cup: England vs ZimbabweThe 2003 World Cup, which was hosted by South Africa, Kenya, and Zimbabwe, also witnessed a team deciding not to play one match. Due to the diplomatic tensions between the Robert Mugabe administration and the UK government headed by Tony Blair, England refused to travel to Harare for their group tie.Pakistan's boycott of the February 15 match against India will be the fourth such occasion where a team has refused to play a side in the World Cup. Though security reasons have been a dominant factor in why teams have taken such a stand before, Pakistan's reason is unique, as they will not take the field against India to show solidarity with Bangladesh, who were earlier replaced by Scotland in the T20 World Cup 2026. The World Cup will begin on February 7.

'Four days later, take back their retirement': Gavaskar predicts Pakistan U-turn on T20 WC boycott vs India

Pakistan's decision to boycott the T20 World Cup 2026 match against India has fueled strong responses from some of the prominent members of the cricket world. India's batting legend Sunil Gavaskar is in the bracket too, and has expressed his thoughts on the bold call taken by the Pakistan government.Gavaskar expresses thoughts on Pakistan's boycottAccording to Gavaskar, Pakistan will be under the pump for the decision they have taken and he won't be surprised if they take a U-turn.“I think in the next four or five days, when reactions start pouring in from across the world and even from their former players, there is a possibility that Pakistan will change their stance,” Gavaskar told Aaj Tak.Highlighting Pakistan players' tendency to take their retirement back, Gavaskar stated that Pakistan can reverse their decision, stating that they followed the sentiment of the public, which wanted to witness an India vs Pakistan game.“What’s new in this? We all know Pakistan cricketers retire and then, four days later, take back their retirement, saying ‘our fans told us to play more’. This might happen again,” Gavaskar said.“What’s the problem with making U-turns in your decisions? There’s no issue, as far as I know.“Pakistan players have set examples. They keep coming back from retirement. So something like that might happen before the 15th.”Gavaskar also said that Pakistan could face sanctions and penalties from the ICC, if it could not justify its decision to boycott the match.“If Pakistan does not have a valid reason to justify withdrawing from the big match against India, or if they cannot show grounds for breaching the contract, then action will be taken by the ICC Board,” he said.ICC's response to Pakistan's decisionThe ICC labelled Pakistan's decision to refrain from playing India, while deciding to compete in the tournament, as "selective participation". According to the governing council, it is against the "fundamanetal premise" of the showpiece event."While the ICC awaits official communication from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), this position of selective participation is difficult to reconcile with the fundamental premise of a global sporting event where all qualified teams are expected to compete on equal terms per the event schedule," the release said.It stated that ICC tournaments are built on sporting integrity, competitiveness, consistency, and fairness, and that selective participation undermines the spirit and sanctity of the competitions."While the ICC respects the roles of governments in matters of national policy, this decision is not in the interest of the global game or the welfare of fans worldwide, including millions in Pakistan. The ICC hopes that the PCB will consider the significant and long-term implications for cricket in its own country as this is likely to impact the global cricket ecosystem, which it is itself a member and beneficiary of," the release said.It said ICC's priority remains the successful delivery of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup which should also be the responsibility of all its members including the PCB."It expects the PCB to explore a mutually acceptable resolution, which protects the interests of all stakeholders," the release said.

Australian Open 2026: Carlos Alcaraz overpowers Novak Djokovic in the final to become the youngest to complete a career Grand Slam

Australian Open 2026: World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz has defeated Novak Djokovic in the final to win the Australian Open 2026. This is Alcaraz's maiden AO title and 7th Grand Slam championship overall. Alcaraz got the better of Novak in four sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5, at the Rod Laver Arena on Sunday. With the win, Alcaraz has scripted history. The 22-year-old is the youngest to complete a career Grand Slam.Novak Djokovic's wait to conquer the elusive 25th Grand Slam title continues as the Serbian got overwhelmed in the Australian Open final by Carlos Alcaraz. Having battled past Jannik Sinner in the semi-final in a 5-set thriller, Djokovic started the final on a positive note, winning the first set 6-2. However, Arcaraz made a strong comeback, winning the second and third sets, 6-2 and 6-3. All eyes were on Djokovic to win the fourth set and extend the match to the fifth set, but Carlos held his nerves and did not let him break his serve, eventually winning the set 7-5 and scripting history. Novak Djokovic's road to the finalAfter picking up straight set wins over Pedro Martinez, Francesco Maestrelli, and Botic van de Zandschulp in the first three rounds, Djokovic received a walkover against Jakud Mensik, who got injured. Using all his experience, he broke Sinner's serve twice in the last two sets and ultimately prevailed. What did Djokovic say after the Australian Open final?Speaking following the culmination of the match, the Serbian humbly admitted that he did not expect himself to make to the final.“The last couple of matches gave me something that I have never experienced in Australia, that much love ... I think (this is my) 21st, maybe 22nd year,” Djokovic said.“I must be very honest and say that I didn’t think I would be standing in a closing ceremony of a of a Grand Slam once again. So, I think I owe you (the crowd) gratitude as well for pushing me forward throughout the last couple of weeks. The 38-year-old did not reveal what the future holds for him, but did not give any signs of taking retirement too.“God knows what happens tomorrow, let alone six months or 12 months. It has been a great ride, I love you guys.”

'You are being unfair to your own players': Kapil Dev's strongly worded message to Pakistan for boycotting T20 WC match vs India

The 1983 World Cup-winning captain of India, Kapil Dev, expressed deep disappointment with Pakistan for boycotting the T20 World Cup 2026 match against India. In a strongly worded message, the legendary all-rounder defined the decision as harmful to Pakistan's own interests.Kapil Dev shares his thoughts on Pakistan's boycott of T20 World Cup match vs IndiaDev, who constantly endorses the idea of young cricketers breaking out on the circuit and taking the helm to evolve the game, feels that this call is completely unjust and catastrophic for the current crop of Pakistani cricketers. He also said that by taking such a stance, the board is risking damaging the reputation of the entire country."If the decision was taken by the players, they can come out and say. However, if the board says that you will not play, the reputation of the country comes down," Kapil Dev told NDTV."It is not looking bright for Pakistan. You are killing the generation. Pakistan have given us fantastic talents over the years. But if you will not allow these boys to play in the World Cup, you are killing the generation and hurting the game. You are being unfair to your own players," he added.Given the massive attention an India vs Pakistan game draws, the fans will be hurt if they do not get to witness the exciting encounter in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. However, when the dust settles, the spectators will move on, and Pakistan could lose supporters due to this, Dev believes."The emotions and spectators will be impacted. But, in the long run, no one will miss them. People will not think about it for a long time, and they will ultimately move on," the legendary cricketer concluded. The Pakistan government on Sunday made it clear that the Pakistan team will compete in the T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to begin on February 7, but will take the field against India in the scheduled encounter of February 15. The decision triggered a massive uproar in India, and many former cricketers subsequently voiced their opinions, wanting the ICC to impose sanctions on Pakistan cricket. As the Pakistan Cricket Board is yet to communicate its official decision to the ICC, no follow-up call action can be taken as of now. However, in any case, it is unlikely that ICC will put some restrictions on the Pakistan team. But, as an India vs Pakistan match promises a massive revenue, all stakeholders will bear the loss if the match does not happen.

T20 World Cup 2026: Australia suffer massive blow as Pat Cummins has been ruled out due to an injury

T20 World Cup 2026: Australia suffered a massive injury blow ahead of the start of the T20 World Cup 2026 as bowling spearhead Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the tournament. Cummins, who captained the victorious ODI World Cup 2023 squad, has not fully recovered from the lingering back injury and will miss the marquee tournament scheduled to start on February 7. Subsequently, Ben Dharshuis has been picked in the 15-member Aussie squad. The absence of Cummins could severely hurt the 2021 champions as the player not only guarantees consistent performance with the ball but is also a prominent leadership figure in the team.Pat Cummins could not recover in timeAlso, top-order batter Matthew Short has been snubbed from the official 15-player squad. Short was listed in the initial provisional squad, but Matthew Renshaw has been named in the final list instead of him.Selector Tony Dodemaide said: "With Pat needing more time to recover from his back injury, Ben is a ready replacement who offers a left arm pace option as well as dynamic fielding and late order hitting.Cummins had initially been named in Australia's provisional squad."We believe his ability to swing the ball at good pace, along with clever variations, will be well-suited to the conditions we expect and overall structure of the squad."Matt (Renshaw) has impressed in all formats of late, including in multiple roles in white ball formats for Australia, the Queensland Bulls and the Brisbane Heat."The trio of Josh Hazlewood, Tim David and Nathan Ellis have cleared the fitness test for the month-long T20 showpiece.Hazlewood sustained a hamstring and Achilles injury prior to the Ashes and has remained out of action since then. About David, he missed most of the Big Bash League (BBL) and the Pakistan series due to a hamstring injury. The injury issues struck Ellis as well. He missed the BBL and the Pakistan tour with a hamstring niggle."With the top order settled and spin-heavy conditions expected in the pool stages in Sri Lanka, we also feel Matt provides extra middle order support, with Tim David completing his return to play program in the early phase of the tournament.""As a left-hander, he (Renshaw) also offers a point of difference to the middle order batting." 'Irregular' armed guards aboard Russian shadow tankers alarm Nordic-Baltic governments

Cuba identifies 32 military personnel killed in US operation against Maduro regime in Venezuela

Cuba's official mouthpiece for its ruling communist party confirmed Tuesday that 32 members of its armed forces were killed during the U.S. military operation to capture former Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. The 32 military and police officers were part of a mission carried out at the request of Venezuela’s government, according to a government statement. On Tuesday, Cuba released their names, ranks and ages. "Victims of a new criminal act of aggression and state terrorism perpetrated against the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela by the United States, 32 Cubans lost their lives in combat actions and after fierce resistance," a statement published by Granma, the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. "They were carrying out missions representing the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, at the request of counterpart bodies in the South American country."REPUBLICANS RALLY BEHIND TRUMP'S MILITARY STRIKE TO ARREST MADURO AS DEMOCRATS SOUND ALARM: POLLCuba announced two days of mourning. Among the deceased were colonels, lieutenants, majors and captains and some reserve soldiers, ranging in age from 26 to 60, The Associated Press reported. They belonged to the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, Cuba's two main security agencies. The publication did not specify their missions or disclose how they died.In a post on X. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez said Cubans were "prepared to give their lives" against any U.S. intervention."The U.S. president, showing absolute ignorance about Cuba and repeating the agenda of lies of Cuban-American politicians and other groups of interest, is blaspheming and threatening our people," Rodríguez wrote. "Our valiant people, true to their history of struggle, will defend their nation against any imperialist aggression.RUBIO TO CUBA: ‘I’D BE CONCERNED' AFTER US MILITARY ARRESTS VENEZUELAN LEADER MADURO"In his words, with all intention, he omits any reference to his criminal policy of economic suffocation and warfare, which has been further tightened, against Cuba, which causes harm and desperation to Cuban families," he added, seeming to refer to President Donald Trump. The Trump administration has said Cuban officials were part of Maduro's security detail. Cuba and Venezuela have grown close in recent years, with Cuban agents becoming a big presence in the South American nation. "You know, a lot of Cubans were killed yesterday," President Donald Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One Sunday night. "There was a lot of death on the other side. No death on our side."Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants and a fierce critic of Cuba's communist government, said Venezuela’s spy agency was "basically full of Cubans.""One of the biggest problems Venezuelans have is they have to declare independence from Cuba," he said during a news conference in which officials revealed details of the military operation to capture Maduro and his wife. "They tried to basically colonize it from a security standpoint."

Israel and Syria resume diplomatic dialogue after months of silence under US mediation

The United States, Israel and Syria announced Tuesday that senior Israeli and Syrian officials met in Paris under U.S. auspices, marking a renewed diplomatic push that includes plans for closer security coordination and potential economic engagement.A joint statement released by the three governments described the talks as being part of President Donald Trump’s broader vision for advancing peace in the Middle East. The discussions focused on respect for Syria’s sovereignty and stability, Israel’s security and prosperity for both countries.According to the statement, Israel and Syria reaffirmed their commitment to pursue lasting security and stability arrangements and agreed to establish a joint fusion mechanism, described as a dedicated communication cell. The mechanism is intended to facilitate ongoing coordination on intelligence sharing, military de-escalation, diplomatic engagement and commercial opportunities, under U.S. supervision."The United States commends these positive steps and remains committed to supporting the implementation of these understandings, as part of broader efforts to achieve enduring peace in the Middle East. When sovereign nations cooperate in a respectful and productive way, prosperity will be unleashed. This joint statement reflects the spirit of today’s great meeting and the Sides’ determination to turn a new page in their relations for the benefit of future generations," the statement concluded. WHY SYRIA PLAYS A KEY ROLE IN TRUMP’S PLANS FOR MIDDLE EAST PEACEIn a separate statement, Israel’s Prime Minister’s office emphasized the need to ensure the security of its citizens, prevent threats along its borders, promote regional stability and advance economic cooperation for the benefit of both countries. The sides also agreed to continue the dialogue while safeguarding the security of the Druze minority in Syria. The announcements follow U.S.-mediated talks held in Paris, which focused primarily on security arrangements along the Israeli-Syrian border. The talks were aimed at easing tensions and reviving elements of the 1974 disengagement agreement, which established a U.N.-monitored buffer zone between the two countries. A Syrian official, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said Damascus is seeking the reactivation of the 1974 agreement and a withdrawal of Israeli forces to positions held before December 2024. The official described Syria’s position as centered on restoring sovereignty and preventing further escalation. A French diplomat also confirmed to the AP that the Paris talks took place under U.S. mediation, with French diplomatic involvement. While the Paris discussions were framed publicly as security-focused, Israeli Channel 12 News reported that the Trump administration has also put forward an American proposal for expanded Israel-Syria economic cooperation, potentially signaling a broader diplomatic agenda.According to the reporting, the proposal envisions a joint economic zone along the existing demilitarized strip, which would remain demilitarized. The zone would include energy infrastructure such as wind power facilities, a crude oil pipeline, data centers and pharmaceutical manufacturing plants. The plan also includes the development of a ski resort.TRUMP WELCOMES SYRIAN PRESIDENT TO WASHINGTON IN HIGH-PROFILE VISIT AS SHUTDOWN DEAL TAKES SHAPEThe proposal could generate an estimated $4 billion in GDP growth for Syria, roughly 20% of its current output, along with an 800-megawatt increase in power capacity, 15,000 new jobs and a 40% reduction in pharmaceutical dependency. Israel, under the plan, would gain the opportunity to transform a buffer zone into a "dynamic economic corridor," potentially reducing long-term military spending along its northern border.Israeli and U.S. officials have not publicly confirmed the details of the proposed economic zone, and the Prime Minister’s Office statement did not reference specific economic projects. The renewed talks followed an understanding reached last week during a meeting between President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu in Florida. According to a Channel 12 report, the United States proposed establishing a joint American-Israeli-Syrian operations room in Amman, Jordan, aimed at managing security in southern Syria and serving as a framework for negotiations on demilitarization and a potential Israeli troop withdrawal from areas seized after the collapse of the Assad regime.

Iran protests prompt new Trump warning over deadly government crackdowns

President Donald Trump vowed Sunday evening that the Islamic Republic of Iran will "get hit very hard," if Tehran repeats the killing of protesters, as it has during previous citizen-led revolts against the regime. When asked about his initial comments on protecting Iranian demonstrators during a press gaggle on board Air Force One, Trump said that "We're watching it very closely. If they start killing people like they have in the past, I think they're going to get hit very hard by the United States."Anti-regime protests have engulfed Iran for the last nine days amid Trump’s second threat to intervene on the side of the demonstrators in Iran.TRUMP VOWS TO 'KNOCK THE HELL OUT OF' IRAN IF NUCLEAR PROGRAM IS REBUILT AGAIN AFTER HIGH-STAKES MEETINGAccording to the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRAI), the intensity of the protests has reached at least 78 cities and 222 locations, with protesters demanding the end of the regime controlled by the 86-year-old Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The group said the regime has killed at least 20 people, including three children, and arrested 990 people. Khamenei’s security forces have detained more than 40 children, HRAI noted.Iran expert Shukriya Bradost, who is CEO of Four Sides Security Solutions, told Fox News Digital that "Trump’s warning to the Iranian regime emboldened protesters because it came from a president who had already demonstrated a willingness to confront Tehran directly, most notably by ordering the killing of Qassem Soleimani. For Iranians who felt abandoned during the 2009 Green Movement under the Obama administration, and later disappointed by the Biden administration’s softer approach toward the regime, Trump’s words were seen as credible and empowering."A U.S. military drone strike killed the former Iranian general, Soleimani, in Iraq on Jan. 3, 2020. IRAN KILLING SPREE CONTINUES AS REGIME SETS NEW RECORD FOR 2025 EXECUTIONS, DISSIDENT GROUP SAYSBradost added, "Today, many Iranians want Trump to maintain that same clarity: to side openly with the Iranian people, not the regime, and to make clear that repression will not be ignored or normalized."The Islamic Republic is no longer a functional system. The central question now is whether U.S. policy reinforces the Iranian people’s demand for genuine change, or unintentionally helps parts of a collapsing regime survive."Iranian protesters asked during the 2009 protests, "Obama: Are you with us or against us?" Then-President Barack Obama sided with the Islamic Republic at the time. He said in 2022 that he regretted his alliance with Khamenei’s regime during the Green Movement.PROTESTS SPREAD ACROSS IRAN AS REGIME THREATENS US FORCES AS 'LEGITIMATE TARGETS' AFTER TRUMP WARNINGTrump’s pro-protest language has breathed additional fire and life into demonstrations, according to close followers of the upheaval blanketing Iran.Mardo Soghom, a veteran Iran expert who has written extensively about the nation, told Fox News Digital that "There is little doubt that President Trump's warning to Iran's Islamic rulers will embolden Iranians, but the fact is that they began their recent protests before Trump made those comments. Most of the Iranians opposed to the regime, especially those inside the country protesting in the streets, are asking for Israeli or U.S. assistance in sort of disarming the regime and neutralizing its forces of repression."He added, "The current round of protests in Iran is different from previous rounds. People are not asking for reforms, but unanimously and categorically they are aiming for regime change. The protests are also more forceful. This time around, the people are less afraid of the notorious security forces and appear more determined."MIKE POMPEO: THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC IS ON THE ROPES. TIME FOR TRUMP, IRANIANS TO FINISH THE JOBTehran's options have been limited by Trump's threats and a long-running economic crisis that deepened after Israel, joined by the U.S., launched strikes on the Islamic Republic in June in a 12-day war that pummelled several of Iran's nuclear sites."These twin pressures have narrowed Tehran's room for maneuver, leaving leaders caught between public anger on the streets and hardening demands and threats from Washington, with few viable options and high risks on every path," one Iranian official told Reuters. The Iranian American campaigner to topple the Islamic Republic, Masih Alinejad, told Fox News that Trump’s "strong message gave hope to the people of Iran." She said after Trump’s first message of protection to the protesters, large numbers of Iranians poured into the streets. She stressed this is the first time in history that a U.S. President "is standing strongly with the people of Iran and not sending appeasement message to the killers."Alinejad urged Trump to evict Iran’s representative at the U.N. and wants the White House to convince Elon Musk to provide Starlink service for internet communications. She called on President Trump to launch U.S. targeted military actions against those who ordered massacres in Iran and killed innocent people.

Mobs of motorcycle-riding armed militia hunt Venezuelan streets for Trump supporters as crackdown intensifies

In the aftermath of Nicolás Maduro’s capture by United States forces, paramilitary groups tied to the Venezuelan leader’s regime have initiated an aggressive campaign to maintain control over the country.Mobs of motorcycle-riding civilians often armed with assault rifles, known as colectivos, have been conducting intrusive searches and establishing checkpoints to identify and punish anyone showing support for Maduro’s removal from power, Reuters reported. The National Union of Press Workers of Venezuela reported that armed forces briefly detained fourteen journalists during Monday's induction of Vice President Delcy Rodríguez as the country’s interim leader. Residents have also reported that some Venezuelans have been afraid to leave their homes, fearing that armed forces would seize and scour their phones for signs of dissent, The Telegraph said."The future is uncertain, the Colectivos have weapons, the Colombian guerrilla is already here in Venezuela, so we don’t know what’s going to happen, time will tell," Oswaldo, a 69-year-old Venezuelan shop owner, told The Telegraph. The colectivos are largely controlled by Nicolás Maduro’s close ally, Diosdado Cabello, who has a $25 million bounty from the U.S. State Department largely for his role in corruption and drug trafficking.VENEZUELA'S NEW INTERIM LEADER DELCY RODRÍGUEZ 'HATES THE WEST,' EX OFFICIAL WARNSCabello, who serves as the state's Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace, is widely known for suppressing political dissent in Venezuela. The presence of colectivos, who often serve as an unofficial arm of state repression, suggests that Maduro loyalists are desperately trying to maintain their grip on the country. The reported crackdown began with a government directive to root out dissent against the Venezuelan regime. According to Reuters, a state of emergency decree published on Monday ordered police to "immediately begin the national search and capture of everyone involved in the promotion or support of the armed attack by the United States."FROM PALACE TO PRISON: VENEZUELAN STRONGMAN MADURO LOCKED IN TROUBLED BROOKLYN JAILAs someone who conducts state-run domestic espionage through widespread coordination of surveillance and counterintelligence agencies, Cabello remains a major unpredictable and dangerous figure in the wake of Maduro’s capture, Reuters reported."The focus is now on Diosdado Cabello," Venezuelan military strategist Jose Garcia told the outlet. "Because he is the most ideological, violent and unpredictable element of the Venezuelan regime."Reuters reported that the former military officer was also recently spotted patrolling Venezuelan streets with security forces. In a social media post by the Venezuelan government, footage reportedly showed Cabello posing with a crowd of armed militia as they shouted, "Always loyal, never traitors."Reuters added that in recent weeks, Cabello was also seen on television ordering Venezuela’s military counterintelligence agency to "go and get the terrorists" and warning "whoever strays, we will know."He reportedly repeated the same rhetoric in a state television appearance Saturday, wearing a flak jacket and helmet and surrounded by heavily armed guards.Despite the removal of Maduro, the loyalist crackdown on dissent and the media suggests that the ruling party has no intention of relinquishing its grip on power.Reuters contributed to this report.

Venezuela's new interim leader Delcy Rodríguez 'hates the West,' ex official warns

Nicolás Maduro’s interim replacement now leading Venezuela in the wake of his arrest represents a continuation of the same regime, and with a woman who "hates the West" at the helm, a former Venezuelan official has warned.Delcy Rodríguez’s appointment, the source said, underscores how Venezuela’s leadership continues to rely on a tight circle of Maduro loyalists rather than new figures, leaving what the source described as "the axis of evil in a geopolitical struggle three hours from Miami."Rodríguez, Venezuela’s former vice president and oil minister, was sworn in Monday after Maduro’s removal from office and his appearance in a New York courtroom on drug trafficking charges."The regime is still the same, and she hates the West," the official told Fox News Digital, speaking on the condition of anonymity.KAMALA HARRIS BLASTS TRUMP ADMINISTRATION’S CAPTURE OF VENEZUELA’S MADURO AS ‘UNLAWFUL AND UNWISE’"Delcy has evolved from a mediocre lawyer, and now she’s the president of one of the richest nations in Latin America," the source said."She has probably been in every post, because they rotate the same people because they don’t have anybody else that they trust.‘Delcy is a very close and trustworthy person for Maduro and was also the same for Chávez."President Donald Trump said Saturday that Rodríguez, 56, stood "willing to do what we think is necessary to make Venezuela great again."Rodríguez, who has served as foreign minister, president of the Constituent Assembly, vice president, and oil minister, was sworn in by her brother, Jorge Rodríguez, the head of the National Assembly.Born in Caracas, Rodríguez is the daughter of Marxist guerrilla leader Jorge Antonio Rodríguez, a co-founder of the Socialist League. He was arrested in connection with the 1976 kidnapping of American businessman William F. Niehous and later died in police custody, according to the New York Times."That ordeal is the foundation and the origin of Delcy’s hatred of the West and of democracy," the source said, before claiming, "her whole background was Marxist."IRAN AND MADURO TIES SUFFER MAJOR BLOW FOLLOWING US OPERATION AND CAPTURE OF VENEZUELAN DICTATOR"The guerrilla Marxist element kidnapped an American executive in 1976 and he was held for three years until authorities located the group hiding in the Amazon jungle," the source said.Rodríguez’s tenure as foreign minister was also marked by controversy, the source claimed, including allegations that Venezuelan passports, birth certificates, and nationalities were illegally sold abroad, according to reports. At the 2016 United Nations General Assembly, Rodríguez said the allegations were untrue."There were some passports being sold in Iraq, and they were giving birth certificates to terrorists," the source said.In 2018, the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctioned Rodríguez, citing her role as a senior official in the Maduro government. Those sanctions remain in place. She was also said to have been implicated in the so-called "Delcygate" scandal in 2020 after allegedly making a secret stop in Spain despite sanctions on her, as reported by Spanish media. MADURO'S CAPTURE IS 'BEGINNING OF THE END' FOR CUBA'S REGIME, HOUSE INTELLIGENCE CHAIR SAYSReports alleged she was transporting gold into Europe, a claim Rodríguez has denied."She had 40 bags full of gold in a private jet as vice president," the source alleged. "They put the bags through the X-ray, and they found the gold." "Venezuela has become an occupied territory by Iran, China, Russia, and Cuba," the source added, citing armed groups including FARC and ELN controlling large parts of the country."Delcy is the interim, but all of these groups are part of the cohort from Chávez that came from communist mindsets against the West that she came from.""We now see the axis of evil in a geopolitical struggle three hours from Miami," the source added."There are atrocity crimes committed by all of this group, plus there’s kleptocracy and grand corruption, which are all still in place," the source said.

'He’s lucky, his opponents are of a lower calibre': Nadal's blunt take on Carlos Alcaraz after Australian Open 2026 triumph

'He’s lucky, his opponents are of a lower calibre': Nadal's blunt take on Carlos Alcaraz after Australian Open 2026 triumph

Having beaten Novak Djokovic in the final of the Australian Open 2026, Carlos Alcaraz has completed the career Grand Slam at just 22 years of age. Alcaraz's win further underscores that he is the undisputed ruler of the sport among the current crop of players and will likely dominate the court for at least another decade. While Alcaraz's emergence to the top marks a fresh era in the sport, those who witnessed the two decades of continuous brilliance of the Big 3- Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Djokovic- assert that Alcaraz, though world-class, is not in the company of the same formidable competition that his predecessors were. Notably, Federer and Nadal have retired, and Djokovic is in the twilight stage of his career.Toni Nadal says Carlos Alcaraz is 'lucky'Rafael Nadal's uncle and former coach Toni Nadal shares the same sentiment about Alcaraz. Nadal raved about the fitness, technicality and game of Alcaraz but also labelled him "lucky", as Rafa, Roger and Novak were constantly challenged by Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, and Juan Martin Del Potro back in the day.“He has exceptional physical attributes, excellent technical skill, and on top of that, he’s lucky: his opponents are of a lower calibre,” Nadal said in an interview on Onda Cero radio. “Before, when you went out to play against [Juan] Del Potro, [Andy] Murray, or [Stan] Wawrinka, you knew you were going to suffer and that the match was going to be tough. If they had a great day, they could beat you.”The Italian Jannik Sinner has risen as the fierce rival of Alcaraz, and the two have traded the last 9 Grand Slam titles with each other. As these two are running a race of their own, the others have completely fallen out of the picture, leaving the competition's demanding fans disappointed.Alcaraz-Sinner dominate the circuitThe current ATP rankings also suggest the same. World No. 2 Sinner sits on 10,300 points after losing a huge number of them in Melbourne. He still stands a staggering 5,000 points ahead of Djokovic in third, showing what gap the now big two have created. When choosing between them, Nadal backed up his prior statements and stuck with Alcaraz.“Personally, I much prefer Alcaraz. When they face each other, the match depends more on what the Murcian does,” he said. “Looking at the numbers, I think Sinner is a little more reliable; he’s a little more solid," he said.
