etnownews

GG vs MI Women Score Updates: GG captain Ashleigh Gardner won the toss and surprisingly elected to bat first. Giants lost opener Beth Mooney early, but Sophie Devine and Anushka Sharma did not panic and built a quiet stand. Sharma eventually departed after scoring 33 off 31 balls. Amelia Kerr broke the partnership. Nat Sciver-Brunt picked up Devine in the next over, and all of a sudden, the Giants were reeling at 71/3 after 10.1 overs. Skipper Gardner and Georgia Wareham got together afterwards and put up a much-needed stand of 71 runs. Gardner got dismissed after scoring 46 runs off 28 balls. Wareham, on the other hand, scored some valuable runs in the end to take the team to 167/4 after 20 overs. Wareham went unbeaten at 44 off 26.Chasing 168, the Mumbai Indians took a cautious approach and scored just 23 runs in the first four overs. The pressure of making the most of the powerplay overs got to the openers- Hayley Matthews and Sajeevan Sajana- as both got out in the final two overs of the powerplay. However, the wicket that pushed MI on the backfoot was of Nat Sciver-Brunt. Devine got the prized scalp of Sciver-Brunt, leaving Mumbai in trouble at 37/3 after 6.5 overs. Captain Harmanpreet provided the innings some stability, first with Amelia Kerr and then with Amanjot Kaur. While wickets kept falling at one end, Kaur did not slow down and fought till the last over. The Mumbai Indians eventually fell short by 11 runs. Harmanpreet went unbeaten at 82* off 48. Wareham, who scored 44 runs with the bat, took two wickets as well and therefore was adjudged the player of the match.Despite the loss, the Mumbai Indians' campaign is not over yet. They will keenly watch the DC vs UPW match and will hope for the Warriorz's win.
